Terms of Use
Last updated 10 September 2026. Plain language, because you should be able to read this in three minutes and know what you agreed to.
What you can expect from us
- A free directory. Browsing grants, sources, funded awards, and insights needs no account and costs nothing.
- Public data, aggregated honestly. Listings come from official portals and sponsors' own pages. We do not alter source records, and every listing links back to where it came from.
- Your saved work kept for you. If you create an account, what you save is stored so it follows you between devices, and it is yours to delete — with your uploaded documents downloadable again at any time.
What we cannot promise
The directory is provided as it is. Funding information changes between refreshes, sponsors edit and withdraw calls, and no aggregation is ever complete or perfectly current. So:
- Always confirm eligibility, award amounts, and deadlines on the sponsor's official page before you commit time to an application.
- Nothing here is legal, financial, or grant-writing advice, and a match score is a suggestion, not an assessment of your chances.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for a missed deadline, a rejected application, or any other loss that follows from using this site. If some part of that limit is unenforceable where you live, the rest still stands.
- The service may change, pause, or end. We will not delete your saved work without telling you first.
Your account
- One account per verified email address. You may sign in with Google, with Microsoft, with a password, or with a code we email you — they all land on the same account.
- Keep your password and your mailbox secure. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
- You may delete your account at any time from the account menu. That removes your saved grants, your research profile, your uploaded documents, and any newsletter subscription, and it cannot be undone.
- We may suspend an account that is being used to attack the service or to harm other people. That is the only reason we would.
What you upload stays yours
The description you paste, the profile you build, and the documents you upload remain yours. You give us permission to store them and show them back to you, and nothing more: they are not published, not shown to other users, and not used to train anything. Matching runs in your browser, not on our server.
Do not upload material you have no right to share — another person's unpublished work, confidential institutional documents, or anything containing someone else's personal data.
Fair use of the service
- Do not automate requests at a rate that degrades the site for other people.
- Do not try to break, probe, or bypass the sign-in system, or reach data that is not yours.
- Do not present the directory as your own, as official, or as endorsed by any sponsor.
- Do not use anything you get here to send unsolicited email.
Other people's material
Grant titles, descriptions, and award records belong to the agencies and foundations that published them, and are shown here to help you find the original. If you hold rights in something on this site and want it removed, tell us and we will take it down while we look.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. If a change materially affects account holders, we will say so by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that is how you accept the new version.
Reaching us
Questions about these terms, a takedown request, or anything else that needs a human: privacy@theopengrant.com. We answer account and privacy requests first.
See also the Privacy Policy, which covers what we store and why.
